This week I had the opportunity to host Ottawa Police Chief Stubbs here in Barrhaven in order to discuss all manner of public security issues. I can tell you that he is aware of your concerns and he is very actively engaged to make improvements. We spoke at length, on site at the Riocan/Marketplace Parking lot by Tim Hortons, about the regular stunt racing and mechanisms to combat it. He will be continuing and reinforcing the Operation Noisemaker and they are expanding additional programs to track and interdict ‘Vehicles of Interest’. I know that this is an extreme frustration, especially for those backing on to key arterials. Continue to report the time and location of stunt driving and excessive, after-market exhaust systems as these genuinely help guide successful police counteroperations. I spoke to the Chief about options for enhancing and modernizing the highway traffic act as well as increasing the number of community safety zones in Barrhaven in order to continue the growth of speed radar and stop light cameras. Furthermore, we discussed the dramatic increase in vehicle thefts in Barrhaven and the OPS operation against the organized crime entities involved.
