On March 30th, the City will be updating its garbage and green bin collection zones. Miller Waste, the provincial third party who is handling blue and black bins will be matching their operations to the city’s new collection schedule. For some residents of Barrhaven West, your garbage and recycling pickup won’t change, but some streets will have collection on new days. The two maps above show the current collection zones for our ward, and the new collection zones starting March 30th (you can download the PDFs for easier viewing).
FAQ's
Will my collection day change?
Your curbside collection day may be changing; check Ottawa.ca/CollectionCalendar to view your new collection day as of March 30.
The changes are due to the City’s new curbside collection contract.
The frequency of garbage, green bin, leaf and yard waste and recycling collection is not changing.
All curbside residents will receive a letter between February 17 and March 1 letting them know about the upcoming changes.
Multi-residential properties are not impacted by this change.
Will my recycling collection also change?
Miller Waste on behalf of Circular Materials is aligning their schedules to match. If your waste collection day is changing, your recycling collection day will also change.
Leaf and yard waste changes
Starting March 30, leaf and yard waste must be set out separately from the green bin in brown paper bags or a reusable container labelled ‘Leaf and Yard Waste’.
This change allows the City to process leaf and yard waste more cost-effectively.
Multi-residential properties are not impacted by this change.
During peak leaf and yard waste season (spring and fall), waste collection operators have until 8 pm to collect your waste. Please leave your waste at the curb until 8 pm.
Branches and brush can be set out in approved bundles. See Ottawa.ca/leafandyard for set out instructions.
Do not place leaf and yard waste in plastic bags.
Do not place dog waste bags in the same bag or container as leaf and yard waste.
Will there be any temporary relief to the 3-item garbage limit during this changeover?
As part of the transition, some households may experience two weeks of the same waste stream being collected.
In order to reduce the impacts of curbside schedule changes, all residents may place up to six garbage items at the curb on their scheduled garbage collection day between March 30 and April 24.
Where can I see my collection changes?
View your waste collection calendar online at ottawa.ca/CollectionCalendar or in the Ottawa Collection Calendar app.
You can sign up for reminders by email, text or phone call at ottawa.ca/CollectionCalendar.
All curbside residents will receive a paper waste collection calendar between February 17 and March 1.
Mailed collection calendars are being discontinued in 2027 to reduce waste.
Are there schedule changes for Easter?
There will be no curbside collection on Good Friday, April 3, or Easter Monday, April 6. Pick up will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. This is the first and second week of the new curbside collection contract.
