Aware of the issue, working with stakeholders (Newsletter: July 5, 2024)

I have heard from many of you about the poor condition Greenbank multi-use pathway in between Fallowfield and Hunt Club. This is more complicated than the average pathway because the land is partially owned by the Federal Government (Canadian Food Inspection Agency). This week, I along with Councillors Lo and Devine, met with MP Arya and representatives from the CFIA to talk through the complications of this project. When we receive updates on this project, I will continue to share those with to you.

Tentative start date confirmed (July 2025)

A tentative start date in July has been set. Details to follow as we get the finalization process (meeting and plans)

Notice of construction from the City of Ottawa

Construction to begin (June 25, 2025)

The long-awaited resurfacing of the Greenbank Road multi-use path through the Greenbelt will begin 2 July 2025, expected to take four to six weeks.

⛔️ During construction, the pathway between Fallowfield and West Hunt Club will be CLOSED to all users, as the entire depth of asphalt will be replaced. A detour route in the shoulder of Greenbank Road was considered, but setting up the barriers would have cost more than the project itself.

Delay due to weather, construction to resume (July 16, 2025)

Barrhaven East Newsletter- Councillor Lo:

A wet start to July delayed the project by 10 days, but works have begun on resurfacing the Greenbank Road pathway between Fallowfield and West Hunt Club. Works are expected to take four to six weeks.

During construction, the pathway will be closed to all users. A detour route in the shoulder of Greenbank Road was considered, but the setup and removal of that detour would have cost more than the resurfacing project itself.

The resurfacing is an interim measure and will buy five to 10 years while the City seeks NCC approval for a comprehensive rebuild and upgrade.

Completion date confirmed (August 2025)

From Councillor Wilson Lo:

The Greenbank Road pathway through the Greenbelt is expected to officially reopen next Friday 29 August! Asphalt resurfacing and line painting is complete and crews are removing construction accesses across the ditch and finishing some landscaping.

Originally envisioned as an upgrade project to bring the pathway to modern standards, including drainage, levelling, and width, the scope was reduced to a like-for-like resurfacing only, because the National Capital Commission (the ultimate approval authority through the Greenbelt) said no. The resurfacing will buy us years of time to work with them on a proper pathway upgrade.

Project completed (August 28, 2025)
