Move to defer 'High Performance Development Standards'

At Council this week I led a motion to defer ‘High Performance Development Standards’ until the fall.  A clip is HERE. My position on this is that adding process time and costs to new units will increase costs that will be transferred over to renters and homeowners.  At a time of skyrocketing house prices, we should be synchronized with the Province on this program as they have stated that updated green building codes will be released later this summer.  In short – we will be improving our building code and we will be well served to hold fast and make the changes once instead of twice. I don’t believe in rushing to failure, nor in increasing red tape (which is always borne by the tax payer).  Delaying an independent municipal program was also requested by the Ontario Minister of Housing to the Mayor so we are in alignment with our Provincial counterparts.
