In council this week I dissented to the city's response to Bill 109. We desperately need to improve our city planning processes so that we balance building more homes faster with supporting local infrastructure and amenities. The cost of living in Ottawa is unaffordable and unsustainable. Housing prices have doubled in the last 5 years. Average rent is over $2100/month. Our waiting list for Rent-Geared-to-Income is about 13,000 long! We may not have made this mess, but this council needs to fix it. I will work hard with my colleagues to make Ottawa more affordable. Thank you to everyone that has provided feedback on this important topic. You can check out my full comments in the video here.
