Splashpad issue resolved (September 25, 2025)

We've been informed that the issue has been resolved by the contractos.

The issue (July 15, 2025)

Since the splash pad is still under the ownership of the developer and not the City of Ottawa. Mattamy, their contractor, Hydro Ottawa, and the Electrical Safety Authority are coordinating on this work, with the aid of the our office.

The connection was anticipated to have been completed several weeks ago; however, an underground repair is required (the pipe for the underground wire was crushed). Once the power is connected, final safety inspections will need to be completed before the splash pad is opened.  The City has not been provided with a revised timeline for completion at this time, but as schedules become known we will absolutely advise everyone.

Not handed over to the city yet (July 10, 2025)

The splash pad has not been handed over to the city yet. I have been regularly calling the developer and contractor trying to get more information and detail.

There is indeed an issue with getting electricity to the splash pad that the developer and contractors are working on. They are hopeful that the fix has been identified and work can begin to fix this last piece of the puzzle. Once the electrical issue is solved the rest of the splash pad will be inspected (a thorough but quick process) for safety and any other deficiencies. If nothing is found then the splash pad can open the very next day.

I am hoping this will be the case but until we are handed the keys there is little I can do but ask for information and keep all parties working together as efficiently as possible.
