Last night I hosted chief Eric Stubbs from the Ottawa Police Service - Service de police d'Ottawa. We spoke with Simon, our local Tim Hortons franchisee and board member of the Barrhaven BIA. We discussed issues of vandalism, homelessness, employee safety and as you can see in the picture, a resurgence in counterfeiting.
At the local LCBO we spoke to Mark about theft trends and recent security issues. We also held a lengthy meeting at Walmart Canada where we discussed youth opportunity theft and mischief and the disturbing trend of threats and violent action towards their associates.
During the three hours we spent at Marketplace, chief Stubbs intervened with three youth mimicking gang shootings, there was a child found unattended in a vehicle who was reunited with their father, an idiot doing donuts next to Dairy Queen was charged and car towed, and a theft was thwarted when the Walmart security confronted two Middleschoolers and they abandoned the product and ran as well as a random run in with Stu Schwartz …and that was just when we were there!
Ottawa police are looking to establish a south Ottawa district and they are going to grow their numbers over the next few years. This will allow for more police presence which is very much needed. Thank you chief for visiting our community and having a meaningful impact here in Barrhaven!
