Traffic Calming and Signage Change Proposals to St Juan Diego School Area

Below is a summary of everything that my office is doing in and around the area of St Juan Diego School with respect to traffic calming and signage changes:

All the items in yellow on the map are modifications or new signs. Everything else shown is existing signs.

Reviews to be completed:

• Main Halyard/Flagstaff Dr to be reviewed for all-way stop control. Data collection is being expedited 

• Main Halyard/Flagstaff Dr to be reviewed for an Adult School Crossing guard. 

• Apolune/Flagstaff Dr to be reviewed for an Adult School Crossing guard. 

• Main Halyard/Turnbuckle to be reviewed for an Adult School Crossing guard

What’s in process:

• All-Way Stop Control at Apolune St/Flagstaff Dr - temporary signs are up. More work to be done to make this permanent.

• All-Way Stop Control at Cygnus St/Flagstaff Dr - temporary signs are up. 

What’s coming:

• Converting the parking bay on the north side of Flagstaff Dr adjacent to the school to 10-minute permissive parking during bell times. 

• Installing No U-Turn signage on both approaches to the school on Flagstaff Dr. 

• Placing the appropriate pavement markings on the speed humps on Main Halyard Dr when the painting season begins

• Playground ahead signage on both approaches to the school on Main Halyard. Expected timeline of 6 to 8 weeks as locates are likely needed.

• School Area signage on all approaches to the school on both Main Halyard and Flagstaff Dr. Expected timeline of 6 to 8 weeks as locates are likely needed.

• Removal of No Parking Fire Route signs on the east side of Main Halyard. This means that vehicles will be able to park here outside of school times where the School Bus Loading zone is located

• Modify the angle of the School Bus Loading zone signs. They are not angled towards the roadway and therefore not visible to drivers.

• Reviewing the area for a potential 40km/h gateway zone

Traffic Calming:

• Flex stakes and delineators approved for installation in 2025.

• Flex stakes and delineators being installed early spring 2026 according to traffic calming map to include: school zone toped flex stakes on outer limit either side of flagstaff, 3 x "No U Turn" delineators between main halyard and mesa on flagstaff.
