Over the past month, the Ottawa Police have remained busy in Barrhaven, issuing over 190 (not a typo!) tickets/offenses for speeding, street racing, and vehicle noise. Additionally, more than a dozen cars were impounded for stunt driving. The police reports for their traffic enforcement thus far can be found here. I had the opportunity to speak to this with Stephane Keyes this week as well.

This week, I thanked Chief Stubbs and the Ottawa Police for their efforts to make our community safer. I also continued to advocate for a modernization of the Highway Traffic Act:

  1.  Enhancing penalties for stunt driving

  2.  Intensifying sentencing for repeat stunt driving offenders

  3.  Integrating new technologies that detect and deal with unnecessary vehicle noise

You can watch my address to the Police Services Board here.
