This week I was able to delegate at the Police Services Board, advocating strongly for a better response to the vehicle theft epidemic. I was heartened to hear the announcement from the Federal government regarding the upcoming Vehicle Theft Summit which I will be reaching out to involved ministers to ensure that Ottawa and specifically Barrhaven, will not be left behind. In my discussion with the PSB, it was identified that the auto theft unit was disbanded in 2017 and that we were not included in the last round of ‘Preventing Vehicle Theft’ Provincial grant funding. You can read more about my thoughts in this CBC article here. I further discussed this yesterday with Chief Stubbs to find solutions locally, and to determine the best strategy to engage with both the Provincial and Federal governments. I plan to visit the Montreal Port Authority with a team of local representatives in the next few weeks and will continue my discussion with auto manufacturers and the insurance industry. You can listen to my CFRA interview on car thefts here and watch a CTV news segment on it here. I am committed to making Barrhaven residents feel safer.
