Earlier in the week, our city’s new Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan was presented to the Finance and Corporate Services Committee for discussion (it will come to council in April). Having worked previously for the Federal Government I understand intimately its strengths and weaknesses as it pertains to our city’s employment and prosperity, which is why I have been a very strong local business advocate from the get go. We need strong, good paying jobs in Barrhaven and I will continue to work hard to ensure that this is incorporated into our city business plan. See my delegation here. I see affordability as a real competitive edge that we need to nurture in order to be a city of choice to young professionals when they are looking at other big cities and employability. The Federal Government will not grow at the pace of our city’s population over the next decade so we need to curate opportunities for our youth as they transition into the workforce. Having a robust network of small and medium enterprises as the foundation for our community is critical to Barrhaven’s continued growth.
