As Barrhaven grows, I am very focused on the need for us to evolve from a residential bedroom community. We will be a much healthier community if folks are able to live work and play here in Barrhaven, but the only way to accomplish that is if we have good paying jobs in the area. This is a major priority for me. I have been engaged with the Barrhaven Business Improvement Area, Ottawa Board of Trade, Invest Ottawa, The Kanata North Business Association as well as other levels of government to work hard to sell the value of bringing high paying jobs and economic development opportunities to the Barrhaven area. There are many opportunities to be seized with Area X.0, ABIC, Federal investments at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency lab expansion, our downtown revisioning as premised on the new Barrhaven Civic Centre, and supporting industries to our Kanata Tech Park. If you are interested in the broad economic development considerations for Barrhaven I would encourage you to read the recently commissioned Doyletech report on Barrhaven’s Economic Development Planning.
