An important phase of the City's Transportation Master Plan (TMP) has been launched, identifying major road and transit networks needed to accommodate growth, and now the City is seeking your feedback. The last time the City did a Transportation Master Plan (TMP) was in 2013, and that document is obviously out of sync with changing growth patterns and transportation needs. The new TMP will set out how the city will plan, develop and operate, its walking, cycling, transit and road networks over the next few decades. In 2023 City Council approved TMP Part 1 – Policies along with recommended Active Transportation Projects (cycling and sidewalks). Now TMP Part 2 – Capital Infrastructure Plan will make recommendations for major transit and road projects across the city.  It prioritizes projects based on how affordable they are within the City’s long-range financial plans. In this final stage of the process, staff have heard from me, and now need to hear from you that Barrhaven's projects need to remain a priority. In short, here are the major projects in the TMP for Barrhaven:

Greenbank realignment (Marketplace to Cambrian): is now a 'committed' project. A committed project means the project is already underway or very close to the start of construction. As I promised last election to bring forward this project, I am very happy to see that Greenbank is in this category.

Borrisokane road urbanization: this involves upgrades to Borrisokane, such as sidewalks to properly accommodate growth. Note that these upgrades are in addition to previously committed projects of a left turn lane onto Flagstaff (2025), and a roundabout at Cambrian and Borrisokane (2026).

Longfields road urbanization (Cambrian to Prince of Wales): similar to Borrisokane, this involves upgrades to improve the pedestrian and cyclist system. Longfields has already seen road improvements with two new roundabouts (Kilspindie, Golflinks), and now urbanization will connect these roundabouts with an improved pedestrian/cycling system all the way to Cambrian as well as Prince of Wales.

Strandherd (Jockvale to Longfields) road urbanization: this will create physical separation of cycling lanes from the road (similar to Strandherd west of Jockvale) to improve the overall transportation system in this high-volume stretch.

I will continue to work to secure infrastructure investments for our growing community, and now you can help to protect our priorities in the planning process.
