Wednesday’s  Council was very impactful for Barrhaven, as we voted on the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) which will guide the city infrastructure investments for roadworks and pathways over the next decade or so.

There remain many lower-dollar investments for our community outside of this document, but for significant major multi-million dollar projects, the TMP will prioritize the next decade + of city investments, and in Barrhaven I focused on getting us caught up.

Significant Barrhaven projects that have been prioritized for construction include, but are not limited to:

  • The first phase of Greenbank Road Realignment, from Chapman Mills to Cambrian (and including the new bridge over the Jock River), was already approved in the last TMP and is in the active planning stage with shovels in the ground Spring of 2026.

  • The final phases of Greenbank Road Realignment (Cambrian Road to Barnsdale Road) have now been approved and will be placed in the que for construction.

  • Borrisokane Road Urbanization (Strandherd Drive to Cambrian Road), expanding the road to include new streetlights and sidewalks/cycling options in and out of Half Moon Bay

  • A new park and ride station for Halfmoon Bay at Kilbirnie

  • Extending the Bus Rapid Transit network including the new Kilbirnie Station (part of Greenbank re-alignment) to Barrhaven Centre and Barrhaven Centre to Limebank Station (LRT)

  • Prince of Wales Drive Widening, expanding the road from 2 to 4 lanes in multiple phases to allow for an easier commute in and out of Barrhaven.

  • Longfields Drive Urbanization (Cambrian Road to Prince of Wales Drive), introducing streetlights, new sidewalks and connecting Barrhaven’s disconnected biking network

  • Fallowfield Road Urbanization (Greenbank Road to Strandherd Drive)

  • Commitment to complete planning for Jockvale Road Pedestrian Crossing as part of the first phase of the TMP

  • New multi-use pathway from Jockvale Road to Antler-Dolan underpass, which would include improvements to the Jockvale Road crossing

  • Several other new multi-use pathways (allowing for both pedestrian and cycling use) including, Kinetic Way and Cedarview Road, Fallowfield Road (from Strandherd Drive to Forager Street), and Strandherd Drive (from Jockvale Road to Rio Can)

That’s a lot to digest, but I’m very happy with the level of investment I was able to secure. I campaigned on making sure Barrhaven received the infrastructure it deserves and has been sorely lacking, and I will continue to do everything in my power to deliver on that promise. More to come, but Wednesday was an important step in that journey.
