With spring in full swing, we are busy with traffic calming and events, and you can find are updates on some of the most popular topics that I have chatted about over the last few weeks. Â
Â
Starting with Borrisokane, I know that traffic has increased significantly year over year. I have spoken to the city on this to prioritize investment on this road. What we can anticipate is that this fall/winter we will see a left turn lane to Flagstaff dr when going southbound on Borrisokane, with a slip lane (widening) for continuous southbound traffic. There will be a roundabout installed at Cambrian and Borisokane with some additional streetlighting in the 2025/26 timeframe.  As the new Caivan development is built out in that area, I will be working with the developer and city to ensure that the development charges and community benefit funds address the need for upgrades.
Another traffic circle, at Kilspindie and Longfields, development is underway with completion estimated for this fall. We'll continue to inform you of major updates in our weekly newsletter. I know that there are a lot of traffic concerns at the existing roundabout further north on Longfields at Stanhope; traffic engineers have indicated that the flow changes with the Kilspindie roundabout will better regulate this safety concern.
Existing traffic calming measures are being re-installed as part of the city's Traffic Services' spring operations. Should traffic calming equipment be missing, damaged or problematic, please reach out to me and I will follow up. On that note, I am tracking that the flex stakes at Exeter and Wessex, which have not yet gone in yet. I have asked for this to be installed on their next pass through the ward, happening in June, so please don’t fret! The City of Ottawa is currently reviewing and approving new traffic calming measures, and we'll keep you informed on the measures coming to our ward.
I have been given the initial approval to assess a traffic humps on Orr Street, and Dundonald drive (by the Lamprey park). Traffic staff will follow up with additional review and residents living on those streets will likely be asked to confirm their interest in order to validate an overwhelming interest and consent. Having spoken to many of you, I have a high level of confidence in your response, but you can expect something from the city on this in the coming weeks to validate (as these are expensive investments).
In addition to traffic calming measures, you can help as well! I have several boxes of ‘Slow down’ lawn signs – If you want one, reach out or stop by my ward office. I asked for metal stakes because the crappy plastic ones didn’t work last year.
