Greenbank Realignment Overview

Soon, construction will begin on a new 4-lane arterial roadway with 2-lane segregated median Bus Rapid Transit along the realigned Greenbank Road corridor. This project includes a new bridge over the Jock River, segregated cycling/pedestrian facilities, construction of 20 new protected intersections, a new Park and Ride facility, and new watermains and sewers. This project will provide a key transportation link for the fast-growing community of Half Moon Bay & Barrhaven South.
The project limits extend from Marketplace Avenue/Chapman Mills Drive to Barnsdale Road.
What's happened so far:
2023: $20.197 million was secured in Budget 2024 for the project.
2024: Another $10.86 million was secured in Budget 2025 for the project, allowing the project's start date to be moved up by multiple years, to 2026. The project's preliminary design is also completed, showcasing the project's road lanes, intersections, and more.
March 2025: Public meeting was held to detail the project's 2026 phase 1.
July 2025: Greenbank realignment final phases are approved & prioritized for funding in the city's Transportation Master Plan.
September 2025: Hydro Ottawa begins preparations of electrical infrastructure for phase 1.
December 2025: $56 million secured in 2026 budget for the new bridge over the Jock River
January 2026: Work began on relocation of local hydro infrastructure in preparation for spring construction of Phase 1
February 2026: Public Information Session held on February 9th to prepare residents for impact of construction
Upcoming key dates
February 2026: completion of detailed design.
Spring 2026: start of phase 1 construction.
